The Birth of Skylar

December 7, 2022

Baby Skylar came into this world this morning around 3 a.m. He is perfect in every way.

Another successful and memorable water birth. I almost didn’t leave for the birth center on time because I didn’t think the contractions were close enough together. They were about 15 minutes apart when we left home. I was only 3 cm when I got to the birth center, and things progressed fast. Contractions then went from every 5 minutes to just blurring together in rapid succession. I gave birth just an hour later! After five pushes, he was here. The staff was joking that I was the ideal client and set a new record for fastest birth at the birth center.

No pain meds for the third time. Just a cheeseburger during labor, 5 barf bags from the intense contractions, one ginger ale, tons of water, several ice cubes, the hottest water on my back that I could stand, and my doula and husband applying counter pressure. I had the strength to make it through! No major complications so we got to go home the same day to sleep in our comfy bed.

I’m exhausted yet so relieved he is here, happy, and healthy!

Special thanks to the amazing midwives at Central Texas Birth Center. My husband Caleb Everett, midwife Janixa, and doula Shayna made it so much easier to work with the pain instead of against it. I’m also glad my mother-in-law and sis-in-law are here to help with our other two kids. We were able to sleep in until 2 p.m. today since we arrived home around 7 a.m.

I’m feeling so blessed right now.
